Madison County is located in south central Iowa. It is named for James Madison, a United States President.
The seat and the largest city are both Winterset.
Main highways through the county include I-80, US-6, US-169 and IA-92.
The county borders Dallas, Warren, Clarke, Union, Adair and Polk Counties.
